Former Irish international Chris Hughton is expecting a tough challenge when his Birmingham City side meet Cork City in a friendly in Turners Cross on July 16th.

Hughton will be faced with a the task of trying to get Birmingham City promoted after they were relegated last season, a task which Hughton completed successfully when he brought Newcastle United back to the Premier League in the 2009/10 campaign.

Hughton’s will bring his full squad to Ireland for the pre-season friendly, which will include several Irish players: “I know Cork City is a fantastic club with great support and that its current squad includes a number of talented young players. We will be bringing our first team squad to Fota Island Resort for the five-day camp and for the match including, of course, our Irish players Stephen Carr, Keith Fahey, Colin Doyle and our latest recruit, Adam Rooney. We will be expecting a stiff test from Cork City given their current form and position near the top of the First Division table.”

Hughton also said that the facilities at Fota Island will be more than suitable for his squad: “I haven’t yet seen the training facilities at Fota Island but I understand the pitches are outstanding and to have five days in a top resort with complete privacy so that we can focus on our preparations for the season ahead is great.”

Tickets cost €17 but a limited number of concession tickets at €8 (prior to game only) are available from Ticketmaster.ie and the club’s new shop at Douglas Village Shopping Centre.
