In 2009, following his return from Scottish club Hearts, Kelly signed for Dundalk and excelled in Oriel Park making himself a permanent feature in their backline. Kelly made his competitive debut for the club in their opening night league defeat by Bohemians on 6 March 2009 and made 33 appearances in all competitions during his first season with the Lilywhites who he helped to fifth place. Kelly penned a fresh one-year contract at the club on 2 February 2010 before following Sean Connor to Galway United for the start of the 2011 season.

Pat Scully will no doubt be delighted to have added more experience to his side; this coming within a week of announcing Denis Behan and Joe Gamble. These are indeed, exciting times down in the Treaty City.
