Barrett departs Waterford United

On Friday evening, prior to their victory in Turner's Cross, Waterford United announced that the club had parted company with midfielder Shane Barrett, terminating his contract by mutual consent.

Having recently started a full-time job in his native Cork, the difficulty travelling back and forth to Waterford for training and matches, although always managing to do so, had been the reason for the decision. The club thanked Barrett for staying on several weeks longer than planned whilst their squad was short-handed.

Barrett was a regular for Cobh Ramblers under the management of Stephen Henderson, winning promotion with the team in 2007. He joined Waterford United in 2010 from non-league side Blarney United, but struggled with injuries during his term with the Blues.

Waterford United currently lie in 6th position in the Airtricity First Division table, and will face Longford Town in the RSC on Friday 1st June.
