Having scored a brace on his home debut last season, Waterford United’s Adam McSherry spoke of his delight of signing with the Blues and has his eyes firmly set on another win in Turners Cross on Friday night.

“To get two goals on my debut is a dream come true”, McSherry said. “Some people have said to me that I could have got a hat-trick but my header came when I was getting a little bit tired. But like I said, if we believe in ourselves more we will do well this season. I played 15 minutes….against Finn Harps but now that I have a full game behind me I think I can go on and help the team move up the league table.

“I told the lads doing the week that we must believe and if we bring that belief to Turners Cross next week we are more than capable of getting a good result there. We must start believing in ourselves from here until the end of the season and if we do that I think we will be fine, I really do. There is a great buzz at training and you can fell the confidence coming back into the squad.”

Having spent last season with Carrick United, winning the Waterford Premier League and Munster Senior Cup, McSherry is excited about his new challenge.

“It’s a challenge that I’ve wanted for the last number of years but unfortunately it hasn’t always been plain sailing with injuries. He is hopeful of a “successful time at Waterford United” and spoke of his delight “to have started it with two goals but more important for the team, three points.”

The attacker had a work of thanks to Carrick United and also to former Blues boss Stephen Henderson who had signed the player before his departure from the club.

“I have to admit it has proved to be a massive step up from playing in the junior league but I have to say that Carrick United trained very hard and are the sharpest team in the league, however believe me this league is faster by a great deal.”

“The commitment at Carrick was fantastic and there is more to come from them but I have to admit also that I am beginning to love this club already. I will always be grateful to Stephen Henderson because he was the man who signed me. That said the new lads who are managing the team now are great and they are trying to get us playing the right way.”
