Mervue United -v- Wexford Youths

Mervue United return to Fahy’s Field for their only home game this month and their first in almost three weeks as Wexford Youths make their first ever trip to the east Galway venue on Friday night. Kick-off 7.45 p.m.
Johnny Glynn’s Mervue side will be looking to bounce back from two consecutive 4-0 defeats over the past two weekends. Last Friday night an under-strength side crashed to league leaders Shelbourne at Tolka Park, while the previous weekend they bowed out of the FAI Ford Cup to Premier Division Drogheda United.
Noel O’Connor’s Wexford side had a free weekend last Friday night but did play an in form Shelbourne in the quarter final of the Leinster Senior cup on Monday night leaking six goals without reply. Prior to that they had provided one of the shocks of the FAI Cup third round by taking the scalp of Premier Division Derry City with a 4-1 home win.
Glynn will be hoping for a similar result to their last home game at Fahy’s Field when his side defeated Longford Town 2-1 at the end of May. Mervue have already defeated Wexford Youths at Ferrycarrig Park in the two club’s first meeting this season when a double strike from Rory Gaffney and further strikes from Jason Molloy, Tom King and Mike Tierney saw them run out 5-3 winners in the south east at the beginning of April.
Glynn will have to plan once again without the services of Nicky Curran (knee), Damien O’Rourke (achilles), Ger Hanley (shoulder), Dan Cunningham (away) and Alex Lee (hamstring). On a more positive note he can welcome back Tom King, James Casserely and David Goldbey, who all missed the trip to Shelbourne, and will return to the squad.
Wexford will be without the injured pair of Anthony Russell and Gareth McCurtin, while David Grincell is in hospital getting his appendix removed. Paul Malone and Craig Wall also miss out as both serve one match suspensions for the trip west. Wexford have struggled for consistency all season, with positive back to back results severely lacking in this campaign.
The home side will look to get back to winnings ways before they face a break from action until July 1st, while Wexford will try to restore some confidence after Monday nights drubbing and collect only their third league win of the campaign and their first in five games.
