Former Waterford United and Sheffield United midfielder Keith Quinn will join Monaghan United once the transfer window opens at the start of July. The player has been a free agent since being released by mutual consent from Waterford United last month.

Speaking to ExtraTime.ie, Mons’ boss Roddy Collins revealed he was delighted to have Quinn on board as the side continues its push for promotion from the First Division. He said: “Keith’s a great kid. He’s a great player. He just needs to get himself back up a little bit and get his confidence back up again. We’ll work on that.”

The Gortakeegan club are currently in joint second place in the league and could certainly do with the former Sheffield United star’s experience as the season hots up. Before joining Waterford, Quinn had a successful stint with Sporting Fingal, playing in 20 games in the 2010 season. Quinn also spent three seasons with Sheffield United where he played alongside his brothers Alan and Stephen.

The talented left-footer signed for Stephen Henderson’s Waterford last December and made seven starts for the Blues. Quinn first came under Collins’ radar in 2009 while on a pre-season trip to Malta with Sheffield United. Collins was managing Maltese side Floriana at the time and Quinn clearly caught of the manager who rates him very highly.

Despite Monaghan’s impressive form to date, Collins is keen to extend on his current squad though he admits any players who sign up won’t be doing so for financial gain.

“I have two other signings lined up as well. We’re going well but we don’t have any money so anyone that comes isn’t coming for the money; they want to play football.”
