Waterford United have announced that talented goalkeeper Josh Byrne has left the club by mutual consent, and has been replaced by Sean Barron.

The club stated that the young keeper ‘cannot give full commitment to the Blues at the present time, and reluctantly both parties have come to this amicable agreement.’

Byrne, 18, has been part of the Blues Under-20's and Senior side for a number of years, but has featured on just occasion this season so far, a 4-0 EA Sports Cup victory against Tralee Dynamos in Kerry, and has been a regular on the bench with Kevin Burns not giving up the number one jersey for the club.

The club moved quickly for a replacement with the signing of Ardmore-native Sean Barron. The 17-year-old spent last season with the Cork City Under-17. He has previously represented Waterford at Inter-League level while he has also featured for the Ardmore hurling team.

Barron featured for Cork City in their FAI Under-17 Cup Semi final in April against local Waterford team Villa FC and joins up with the squad ahead of their away trip to Finn Harps on Saturday night.
