Murray hopes for Henderson stay
Waterford United captain Kevin Murray has come out in defence of manager
Stephen Henderson on the back of rumours of his imminent departure
from the club.
Rumour of Henderson’s departure surfaced on Friday after another disappointing defeat the previous evening, a 1-0 defeat to Monaghan United.
“It was a bit of a shock when I heard the rumours that Stephen was getting sacked”, Murray told Beat102103’s Martin Clancy this evening.
“I think people tend to forget really what Stephen has done in the short term as a manager. He’s won a First Division with Cobh, took us to the FAI Cup semi final, the EA Sports Cup final, last year he took us to the promotion play-offs and any other year we would have been promoted.”
Stephen Henderson is expected to meet with the Waterford United management committee tomorrow where his future will be resolved, but Murray is hopeful the Dubliner can stay on as manager. “To be honest I was shocked to hear the news and hopefully the board will reconsider and keep Stephen on.”
