Kavanagh settling in at Richmond Park

St. Patrick’s Athletic match winner Daryl Kavanagh could not hide his delight in the aftermath of the Inchicore side’s 1-0 victory over Bohemians in the Dublin derby at Dalymount Park.
A goal from the former Waterford United man following on 67 minutes was enough to earn Pete Mahon’s side the points. The goal came from the Saints’ tactic of getting the ball quickly and directly to the forward, in this case from a long downfield kick by keeper Gary Rogers.
Speaking exclusively to Extratime after the game, Kavanagh highlighted his delight that the Saints’ hard work had paid off. “It’s nice to see things come together and that tactic [Rogers’ long kicks forward] worked tonight on the bigger pitch.”
Forced into a late change before kick-off due to Danny North’s leg injury, Kavanagh was partnered up front with Dave McMillan. Despite this inconvienience though, Kavanagh praised the strength of the Saints attacking options. “Yeah Danny pulled out shortly before the game, and Dave came in, but it didn’t make any difference because they’re both similar players and I like playing with both.”
After what was initially a tough start to his season with only three starts from his first seven league games, Kavanagh has began to show signs of the player that manager Pete Mahon made ‘a lot of effort to sign’. Kavanagh himself admits that he now feels settled and is starting to find his form after a slow start to the season
“Yeah I didn’t start the season too well. Pete didn’t know whether to play me on the right or up front. But now I’m doing well and now we look ahead to Thursday and the Sligo game.”
