Giovanni Trapattoni will face his native Italy for the third time as Republic of Ireland manager as the Football Association of Ireland announced on Monday an upcoming friendly with the Azzurri.

The Ireland team will play Ceasare Prandello's Italy in a friendly match in Liege, Belguim on the 7th June at 7.45pm Irish time. The friendly will be played at Standard Liege’s home ground, Stade Maurice Dufrasne.

On June 4th, the Republic of Ireland will play a Euro 2012 qualifier in Macedonia whilst a night earlier Italy will face Estonia in the Stadio Olimpico.

Trapattoni previously encountered the Italians in the World Cup Qualifiers 2010, both games ending in draws. Italy went on to comfortably top Group 8 whilst Ireland faced France in the infamous play-off games.
