Kavanagh happy with Cork display
Cork City defender Gavin Kavanagh was pleased to get a draw against league leaders Shelbourne but also felt that his team may have taken all three points from Tolka Park. “I suppose coming to Shelbourne you'd take a point but I thought we could have shaded it in the end. I thought in the last 15 minutes we got the ball down. We passed it really well. We had them on the back foot and created some chances. We could have shaded it in the end.”
Kavanagh was also slightly disappointed with the Shels equaliser, which was scored by Karl Bermingham, but was fairly happy with the way his team defended throughout the 90 minutes. “They probably got the one clear-cut chance early in the second half. We switched off and they got a goal from it. We'll have another look at it but they're always going to get a chance and they took theirs. Overall we're happy enough with the performance. I thought we defended well for most of the night.”
Kavanagh praised the performance of substitute Vincent Escude-Candau but felt that Cork's number 24 may have grabbed all three points for the visitors. “I thought Vincent when he came on in the second half that the ball stuck up top with him and he done really well. He had a chance near the end and I thought he was going to put it away but it wasn't to be.”
The City defender is positive about his teams start to the season and the future “We're working hard in training each week. The lads are putting in a good shift. We're still up there on the top half of the table. The first stage of games are nearly over and we'll look forward to the next game next week (away to Wexford Youths).”
