Kenny lauds Candystripes' travelling haul

Derry City boss Stephen Kenny was delighted with his side’s 2-0 win over Bohemians on Friday night. Having travelled to Dublin to take three points, Kenny’s men are looking favourites to push Shamrock Rovers close for this season’s Premier Division title, sitting just two points behind the holders after nine games.
“To come up to Dublin and win, we are pleased with that,” said Kenny. “We have had some good performances this year and not always got the reward – we’ve drawn a few games and that. But tonight, to come away from home to Dublin and to come away with three points and a clean sheet is good. For a lot of our players it is their first year in the league and they’re doing very well.”
The Candystripes controversially took the lead just before the break after Bohs had been reduced to ten men after Keith Buckley was given his marching orders. However, any hopes of a home rally was quickly extinguished by Kenny’s side as they doubled their lead immediately after the second half started after a fine move including Eamon Zayed and the goal scorer, James McClean.
“The second goal was a very well worked goal with James McClean. A good team goal. Both of the goals are good team goals, I’m pleased with that,” said Kenny. Indeed Kenny was quick to note that the red card made a big difference on the game, especially on the final minutes of the first half and opening ten minutes of the second. “I think the extra man was significant,” said Kenny. “It gave us a bit of room.”
“It was a good victory because Bohemians have a lot of good players. We have had to start at the bottom. The bottom of the First Division […] but bigger tests lie ahead,” added Kenny.
