Week 7

Yet again there were no winning bets in Week 6, as Longshot, ET’s Cathal Breathnach and the fans representative Jimmy Power all lost €20 each.

There hasn’t been a big win in a long while, so it is overdue and Longshot will take on ET head snapper Andy McDonnell and Shamrock Rovers supporter Paula Maguire.

Longshot
After a few weeks without a win (though followers of Longshot will still be in profit), it’s really time to start picking winners again to keep the profit healthy.

First off this week, the biggest game of the season so far kicks-off at Dalymount Park tonight, with Bohemians entertaining Shamrock Rovers. This game is always going to be a tight one, and with so many of the battles between the sides in recent years ending up level, then the draw looks a good bet yet again at 11/5.

Gary Twigg is likely to be a huge loss for the Hoops, and though they go into the game as favourites, against a passionate home crowd they won’t have it all their own way. Bohs have exceeded expectation so far this season despite the numerous problems in their way, so we can see them getting a draw tonight.

Next up St Patrick’s Athletic should take the points at home to a UCD team that have yet to play to their potential this season. The Students have yet to get up running and despite topsy-turvy form from Pat’s they will have enough to win at Richmond Park tonight (1/2).

Finally, Cork City will be boosted by last weekend’s big win away to Waterford and you would have to fancy them to take the points against Finn Harps at home. Harps haven’t won yet this season and despite being heralded as a dark-horse at the beginning of the season, James Gallagher’s team haven’t been great, drawing three of their four games to date.

City, on the other hand, are still unbeaten and with Shelbourne taking on Monaghan United they know a win here could see them on top of the table depending on the result in Tolka, they’re 8/15 to win tonight.

Longshot’s Selections
Bet 1: €20 treble; Bohemians and Shamrock Rovers to draw (11/5), St Patrick’s Athletic to beat UCD (1/2), Cork City to beat Finn Harps (8/15).

Reporter Selections
Team ET have been atrocious to date, losing every week, but photographer Andy McDonnell is taking over from the scribes in an effort to eat up the deficit and “claw back some pride.”

Bet 1: €5 single; Cork to beat Finn Harps by exactly three goals (13/2).
Bet 2: €10 treble; Athlone to beat Wexford Youths (11/4), Monaghan to beat Shelbourne (11/4), Bohemians to draw with Shamrock Rovers (11/5).
Bet 3: €5 single; Dave Mulcahy to score first for St Patrick’s Athletic v UCD (12/1).

Supporter Selections
The fans dipped back into the red last week when Jimmy Power had no luck, but Ms. Maguire has picked out two €10 trebles in an attempt to move them back into profit.

Bet 1: €10 treble; Bohemians to beat Shamrock Rovers (11/5), Dundalk to beat Sligo Rovers (17/10), Derry City to beat Galway United (8/11).
Bet 2: €10 treble; St Patrick’s Athletic to beat UCD (1/2), Limerick to beat Mervue United (4/6), Shelbourne to beat Monaghan United (5/6).
