Devlin celebrates result over performance
Bray Wanderers manager Pat Devlin was delighted with the three points that his side picked up at the Belfield Bowl on Friday night away to UCD in the Airtricity League. Devlin also admitted that the result was the most important factor, especially considering the state of the pitch.
Devlin said, "It wasn't about performance, it was about getting a result. The pitch was poor for both sides. The two teams tried to pass the ball around. It wasn't a great game for the fans. For us personally, and for anyone connected with Bray, it's a great result. "
The result means that Bray are now fourth in the Premier League table just three points behind defending champions Shamrock Rovers. However Devlin continues to ensure that everyone connected with Bray continues to keep their feet on the ground, which is hardly surprising from a man of his experience.
The Bray manager added, "We have no real goals at this stage. It's just to keep playing, trying to pass the ball around, have a few goals and obviously concede as little as possible. Tonight was great . A 1-0 and three points, that's all you want It's three points further away from relegation."
The Bray boss was also pleased that in the abscence of the injured Gary Shaw and Colin Tresson and the unavailable Conor Murphy other players have done their bit for the team.
"It is encouraging because we have other people who have come in and they have worked hard. It is up to them to stay in the team now", Devlin added. He also revealed that Conor Murphy should be available for Monday night's EA Sports cup game at home to Drogheda. "We have another game on Monday night. Conor should be back and Gary should be back very shortly. It gives us a little bit more to choose from but overall a genuinely great day for us with the three points."
"A second one now, and we're thrilled with that".
