Fifth place and 12 points off top spot in the First Division last season, Pat Scully has put together a talented squad for the 2011 season as he looks for promotion to the Premier Division.

This weekend brings another early season challenge for Pat Scully’s side as they welcome an in-form Longford Town to Jackman Park on Friday night. Longford Town have started the season well with two wins from their opening three games. Wins against Wexford Youths, Mervue United and Athlone Town (Cup) followed the opening day 2-1 defeat to Shelbourne. Limerick boss Pat Scully isn’t expecting an easy game.

“Longford Town have started the season well. I have seen Longford twice in recent weeks and they're a decent team with a good attitude .It's a great boost to have Pat Purcell and Corey Tracey back available and hopefully one or two little injuries will clear up.”

“When we have a full squad, we will have real competition for places, which will give the players good motivation to perform and win matches.”

Limerick have strengthened during the off-season with the experienced duo of Barry Ryan and John Frost sure to add to an already talented squad, with the return of Garry Sheahan also an excellent piece of business amongst others, though currently out injured with a broken leg.

A 2-2 draw away to Finn Harps was followed by a 3-0 win against Salthill Devon. Last weekend saw an early setback with a 1-0 defeat against Cork City in Turners Cross.
