Shelbourne -v- Wexford Youths

Wexford Youths will look to continue their fine record against promotion favourites Shelbourne when they travel to face the Reds at Tolka Park on Friday night (8pm).

The Youths had an unbeaten record against Shels last season, winning the tie in Tolka Park 2-1 and drawing 1-1 with Shels in Wexford twice. Both sides have had their problem scoring so far this season, mustering just two goals between them in their four matches thus far across all competitions.

But the Reds have had a winning start to this season- opening their campaign with a win against Longford before scraping past Crettyard United 1-0 thanks to a late Conan Byrne goal in the Leinster Senior Cup last Sunday. Manager Alan Mathews has said he was happy with the amount of chances created against Crettyard, but Shels still had huge trouble converting chances into goals.

Youths, for their part, have had a poor start to the First Division season, losing 1-0 to Cork City on the opening night and 2-0 to Longford last week. They will hope to continue their tradition of upsetting Shels, who are missing Sean Byrne (due to a hamstring injury) and Ray Scully (due to suspension) but are still heavy favourites.
