Galway United boss Sean Connor has had an extremely busy day in the transfer market, snapping up no less than five players to boost his squad ahead of Friday night’s League opener at home to St. Patricks Athletic.

Fans of the club will be delighted with the news that Bobby Ryan, Sean Kelly, Shaun Maher, Brian Cash and former Scotland U21 Goalkeeper Greg Fleming will join the squad with immediate effect. With the season shaping up to be extremely tough for United, the new signings will add experience and talent to all areas of the field.

Ryan and Kelly will be no strangers to Terryland soil, with Ryan returning to the club for a third time. Ryan was famously part of the Shelbourne side that won the League of Ireland in 2006. The former Bohemians winger finished off last season lining out with his home side, Limerick FC.

23 year old Sean Kelly joins United following a decent spell at Limerick FC in 2010. The former Arsenal youth lined out 29 times for Galway in 2009, and will be expected to hit the ground running for the Tribesmen.

Connor has rekindled his relationship with ex-St. Patricks Athletic midfielder Brian Cash, who played under the manager at Sligo Rovers between 2007 and 2009. His spell with the Bit O’ Red earned the midfielder a transfer to Richmond Park in 2010.

Ex-Fulham and AFC Bournemouth defender Shaun Maher joins Galway following Sporting Fingals demise, and the Dubliner will add a vast amount of experience to the side. Maher has been a vital member of a number of teams over the last 10 years; including the Bohemians side that scooped the League of Ireland and FAI Cup double of 2000/2001.

The first of five signings announced on Thursday was the acquisition of goalkeeper Greg Fleming, moving to Ireland having been released by Oldham Athletic in January. Having been released by cash strapped Gretna in 2008, Fleming was snapped up on a three year deal by Athletic. Having recovered from a knee injury that hampered his development across the water, Fleming is likely to be available for selection in Friday night’s league opener.
