A very successful 2010 campaign was capped off with two pieces of silverware for the Bit O’ Red, landing their hands on the FAI Cup and League Cup. The FAI Cup final will long go down in history following a dramatic penalty shootout, in which Sligo keeper Ciaran Kelly pulled off a miraculous four saves in the shootout.
Paul Cook guided his side to a very impressive third position in the Airtricity League, despite tough competition coming from the likes of St. Patrick’s Athletic. Tipperary man Richie Ryan was just one of the outstanding players throughout the season, earning the midfielder the 2010 PFAI Player of the Year Award. Joe Ndo and Matthew Blinkhorn were also instrumental in the side’s glittering campaign.
Rovers’ fans will welcome the positive signings Cook has made during the preseason. The likes of Jason McGuiness, Raffaele Cretaro and Alan Kirby will undoubtedly add to the strength and depth in the already impressive squad. Building on last season’s impressive achievements, Sligo Rovers are well placed to mount a serious challenge for the 2011 Airtricity League.
