League of Ireland season launched

The 2011 Airtricity League season was launched at the Aviva Stadium on Monday morning. The event was attended by players, managers and club officials along with representatives from the FAI and the leading league sponsors.
There was much excitement at the event with just four days until the league opener. Fran Gavin spoke of the progress league clubs have made in recent seasons with overall club debt down massively. Gavin spoke of the disappointment of Sporting Fingal’s unimely demise but that clubs were beginning to reduce cost in light of reduced prize money available this season.
Players also had their yearly photoshoot in glorious sunshine on the Aviva Stadium pitch with many showing off their new club jerseys for the coming 2011 season.
