Drogheda United have announced the appointment of Mick Cooke as first team manager of the club.

Mick, who played for Drogheda United during the early 70s, re-joins the club from Monaghan United where he has proven his ability to get the very best from a team within tight budgetary constraints. He is one of the League of Ireland's most experienced and respected managers.

Cooke will be assisted by former Sporting Fingal coach, Robbie Horgan, who was one of Drogheda’s most popular goalkeepers during the late 80s/early 90s.

The news will come as a major blow to Monaghan United and their preparations for the 2011 season which kicks off in five days time.
