Corrie Treacy signs for Limerick

Former Drogheda United full back Corrie Treacy has signed for Limerick FC. Tracey played for the club in their pre-season friendly against Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds on Friday night although his first appearance for his new club ended on a sour note when he was sent off after just 21 minutes.

Treacy was fouled by Dave Webster midway through the first half half and kicked out at the Bray full back in the aftermath of the challenge. Referee Derek Tomney seemed more surprised than offended by the incident but raised the red card for what was clearly a sending off offence.

Treacy made 20 league appearances for the Drogs last season and scored one league goal, in a 3-1 defeat against Galway United at Terryland Park in April.

His move to Jackman Park represents something of a reunion having played for Limerick boss Pat Scully at Shamrock Rovers. And Scully was in forgiving mood having seen his new signing take an early shower at a point when the tie was still finely balanced.

“It was a sending off to be fair, we just thought in pre-season maybe he (referee Derek Tomney) could have given us the option to take him off. But look, that’s something Corrie has to learn from. He’s a good lad. There’s things he needs to improve on and he knows that. he’s disappointed but he’ll be a good signing for us”.
