Pre-season victory against St. Patrick’s Athletic and a draw against Bohemians has shown the improved squad that Longford Town possess for the new season. A 9th place finish last season will hope to be improved upon this season with a good start needed to keep the Town away from the bottom half of the table. One victory in their last 10 league games of last season condemned them to a lowly position in the bottom half of the second tier.
Victories against Waterford United and Limerick while drawing against Derry City last season has shown Longford’s capability in competition with the ‘big boys’ of the First Division but their inability to consistently beat the lower teams has proved their downfall.
This season should see Longford continue to progress. Craig Walsh’s permanent deal should excite the Flancare Park faithful while Don Cowan should prove to be a real handful for opposing defences. Jacques Morley also looks to be a real talent after terrorising the Bohemians defence in a recent pre-season. Plenty of optimism from Town fans should add to an exciting season ahead to rise above expectations.
ExtraTime Prediction: 8th.
