Bohemians 1 - 1 Longford Town

After a gloomy few months the football buzz was back in Dalymount Park on Monday night as Bohemians played host to Longford Town in their first pre-season friendly.

It’s very much a new-look Bohs side that will start the league campaign in just over a week’s time. There are plenty of new faces at the club now and supporters know they are in for a long season. But after the uncertainty they faced in the last while they’ll be delighted that they will have a club to support in the Premier Division.

For Longford Town it’s another good result for manager Tony Cousins. He made several changes at the break which disrupted things a little, but he will be delighted with another fine performance from his side.

Bohs had the first real chance of the game in the 9th minute but Town keeper Alvin Rouse pulled off a fine save to deny Lee Dixon.

After being under the cosh for the opening quarter of the game the Town took the lead, against the run of play, in the 17th minute. Jacques Morley teed up Don Cowan and the ex-Shamrock Rovers made no mistake from close range.

Bohs had a chance to get back on level terms in the 21st minute but Christopher Forrester brought a save out of Rouse. The loose ball fell to the winger but he put his effort wide.

The home side continued to press for an equaliser but were nearly caught out on the break in the 21st minute. Mark Salmon released Cowan and he sprinted down the win, with Craig Walsh rushing through the striker crossed but Bohs keeper Barry Murphy was able cut-out the danger.

Town defender Des Hope did well in the 29th minute to prevent Anto Flood from getting a touch, after Christopher Fagan played in a neat ball.

Rouse really was in fabulous form for Longford in the first half. Four minutes from the break he was called into action again; this time pulling off an excellent save from Fagan’s powerful free-kick.

Cousins decided to ring the changes at half-time and eight players were introduced to the fray. Lee Roche, Paddy Collins and Thomas Hyland were the only players who retained their places for the second half.

Bohs started the second half like they did the first and continued to put pressure on the Town’s defence without really troubling them. Flood had two chances after the break but he should’ve done better with both of them.

Two substitutes combined in the 77th minute to bring Bohs level. Ryan McEvoy was only on the pitch a few minutes when he crossed to Stephen Traynor and he headed the ball home.
