Cork City have signed 27 year old former Cobh Ramblers keeper James McCarthy.

Speaking to CorkCityFC.net, Dunne said that the signing McCarthy adds depth to the squad: “James signed yesterday, having trained with us for a couple of days. He comes highly recommended, and he is experienced as well. He won the first division with Cobh a couple of years back, so he knows what this division is like and has experience of winning promotion from the division.”

“Work commitments mean he maybe hasn’t fulfilled his potential up to this point, but I am hoping that he will come in and work well with our other two goalkeepers and compete with them for a place in the team.”

Dunne also confirmed the appointment of Greg O’Halloran as club captain for the coming season, saying: “Greg has been an excellent player for the club over the years, and he is very experienced. He is a good trainer, a consistent performer and he is a good go-between between myself, the players and the coaching staff. He was my assistant last season, and while I wanted him to concentrate on the playing side this season, I believe he fits the bill for this role.”
