Cork City have announced the signing of French midfielder Vincent Escudé-Candau.

Escudé-Candau joined the club on trial at the beginning of the month, having played for Sligo Rovers in a friendly fixture against Finn Harps, and scored for the club in the friendly defeat to Shamrock Rovers.

Commenting on the signing, Cork City manager Tommy Dunne said: “Vincent came in on trial and did well both in training and in the game against Shamrock Rovers. He’s a fit lad, and he has good technical ability, and his signing gives us another option in the middle of the park. He hasn’t played in this league before, but I am hoping that he settles in well now and I think he will be a useful addition to the squad.”

Escudé-Candau, 25, who previously played for Aviron Bayonnais, Ajaccio and Lens, told CorkCityFC.net that he was looking forward to playing in Ireland: “Romauld Boco at Sligo is a good friend of mine, and he recommended the League of Ireland to me. He told me that there are good teams here and there is a good atmosphere at games, and that Ireland was a good country to play in. I came to Cork City to train, and I really enjoyed it, so I am looking forward to the season. It is a new challenge for me, and my ambition is to get into the team and keep improving all the time.”
