Dunne set for Munster Cup tie
Cork City manager Tommy Dunne has revealed that his team are looking forward to their first competitive match of the season which takes place this Sunday.
City travel to the RSC for a Munster Senior Cup tie against current cup holders Waterford United, with a 1pm kick-off.
“We’re still in pre-season, but it is a competitive fixture, so there will be that bit more edge to the game”, Dunne said. “It’s a good fixture for us and I hope it will be a good workout for the lads. Waterford is always a tough place to go, but we are looking forward to the game and I hope we will give a good account of ourselves.”
The City boss plans for the fixture without the services of Greg O’Halloran (ankle) and Alan Carey (Achilles) and remains without long-term injury victim Stephen Mulcahy (groin) who is sidelined until April.
The City squad that lines up on Sunday is likely to be different to the teams fielded in the friendlies against Cobh Ramblers and Shamrock Rovers, as the featuring trialists are not eligible for this game.
City are also thought to be close to securing the signature of French midfielder Vincent Escude-Candau after impressing on trial at the club. City are currently awaiting his release from French side Aviron Bayonnais FC.
