Molloy signs for Mervue
Mervue United manager Johnny Glynn has been busy over the weekend and he confirmed striker Jason Molloy has signed for the club. Molloy played the last three seasons with Galway United and returns to the club were he played all his juvenile football before joining the Terryland Park club.
Glynn also confirmed the club’s star player last season, Rory Gaffney, has re-signed for the club for another season, while defenders Damien O’Rourke and David O’Brien have re-joined the club for the 2011 season. Striker Gaffney had been attracting interest from a host of club’s, including Premier Division outfits, but has decided to stay with Mervue for the coming season.
Peter Dravins has also joined the club from Castlebar Celtic and Darren Kelly has been signed from local junior club Dynamo Blues.
Glynn has also managed to re-sign all of last season’s squad apart from Enda Curran who has agreed to join Galway Utd. Eric Browne, Martin Conneely, Dan Cunningham, Kevin Crehan, Mike Tierney, Mark Ludden, Alex Lee and David Goldbey all played in Friday nights 1-0 friendly win over city rivals Salthill Devon. Youngsters James Casserely, TJ Forde and Barry McEntee, who scored the only goal of the game, also featured.
There was further good news for the club on Friday night as goalkeeper and player of the year in 2009, Eoin Martin, played his first game for the club following his return from injury in that friendly win in Drom on Friday night. Eoin missed the whole of last season after breaking his arm in the final game of the 2009 season against Wexford Youths
