Johnny Dunleavy had a week to remember when he was named in the Republic of Ireland U-21 squad for the first time as well as making his league debut on Saturday for Barnet.

The Ballybofey native was named in Noel King’s 19-man Irish U-21 squad on Thursday for the upcoming friendly against Cyprus on Wednesday, February 9, at the GSZ Stadium in Larnaca. Having captained Ireland at underage level, the chance to make the next step is testament to the progress being made by the 20-year-old.

Dunleavy, who is on a professional contract at Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers, is currently on a one-month loan at League Two outfit Barnet and came on on Saturday for his first ever league appearance in the London side’s 2-0 home loss at the hands of Southend.

With this temporary side trailing by goals from Anthony Grant and Barry John Corr, Dunleavy was taken on for the last 20 minutes at Underhill. The result means that Barnet are now in 23rd place in the League two table.
