Harps to sign former Sligo captain
Finn Harps expect to add an experienced midfielder to their squad today in the form of Conor O’Grady from Sligo Rovers.
Manager James Gallagher confirmed the news in the wake of his side’s 1-1 pre-season friendly against Paul Cook’s team at the Finn Valley Centre in Stranorlar, a match in which O'Grady did not play a part. Thirty-year-old O’Grady was the club captain at the Showgrounds last season in his second spell at the club having also lined out for Cork City. The former Irish underage international has been training with Harps for the last 10 days and will put pen to paper today.
“We will have Conor at training on Sunday and hopefully we will get it all sorted,” Gallagher said on Saturday afternoon. “We would like to put it to bed and we hope to possibly add another player to the squad tomorrow as well.”
All in all, Gallagher cut a content figure after the draw against the Premier Division team that won both domestic cups – the FAI and EA Sports – last season. Tommy Bonner gave Harps the lead before Alan Keane levelled on 81 minutes.
“It’s good to get back and it was a very good game,” Gallagher added. “I’m very happy with it. Sligo, like ourselves scattered it about and we played some good stuff. Pre-season is going well and once we got going it was grand and our fitness looked good. Now it’s all about getting games and working.”
