Drogs-Dundalk Malone Cup postponed
The Malone Cup match between Drogheda United and Dundalk, scheduled to go ahead at United Park this Friday night (28 January) has been postponed.
Following a meeting last night, Drogheda informed Dundalk that the match has come too soon for them to assemble a competitive team. A new date has yet to be agreed.
The club are still in the midst of a major fundraising drive in order to survive the next season. The club are in the process of raising the required €200,000 to be financially secure through the 2011 League of Ireland season.
According to a spokesperson for Drogheda United "it was just too soon and with only one training session under our belts we felt the right thing for everyone was to find a more suitable date”.
“Thursday night sees us officially launch of the share initiative designed to raise the required funds before the end of the month. FAI CEO John Delaney will be attending the launch together with business leaders, politicians and supporters and has already pledged his support for the route that the club’s prospective owners are taking.”
