Danny Murphy a rebel again

Cork City FC today announced the re-signing of 25 year old, Danny Murphy.

Speaking to CorkCityFC.ie, City manager Alan Mathews said he was extremely happy to have signed Murphy: “Danny is a good player who has been at the club before. He will further add to the depth of our squad and his signing will increase the competition for places. He is a proven defender who has been successful at Cork City before, and I hope he will enjoy more success with the Rebel Army this time around.”

Murphy, who has signed a three year deal with the club, told CorkCityFC.ie that he was thrilled to be back on Leeside: “I’m absolutely delighted to be back at City, and I really appreciate Alan Mathews’ work in sorting out a deal for me to return to the club.”

In addition to Murphy, AlanO’Connor, 24, joins the club on a one year contract from Munster Senior League side Rockmount, while John Tierney, 19, was previously with Limerick 37. City boss Alan Mathews told CorkCityFC.ie of his satisfaction with the signing of Tierney, saying: “John is a promising young player with a bright future in the game and we would like to think that he can prosper at the club.”

Mathews also said he was very happy with to have signed O’Connor: “Alan has been training with us since the start of pre-season. He has impressed in training and also in the friendly matches we have played, and of course he scored against Wexford at the weekend. He’s a local lad and he is a good addition to the squad. He has really improved in the few weeks he has trained with us and has shown a great attitude. I would also like to thank Rockmount for allowing him to train with us, and it is to their credit that Alan has come on board with us.”
