St. Pat's snap up Kavanagh

St Patrick’s Athletic have today announced the signing of former Waterford United midfielder Daryl Kavanagh.

Kavanagh's undoubted talent was on show last week at the FIFPro tournament with the PFAI squad in Norway and St. Pat’s have been quick to snap him up after impressing.

St. Patrick’s Athletic manager Pete Mahon was delighted to be able to include young midfielder in his Saints squad ahead of the 2011 season. "He’s a player I would have known about for some time but he would have come to prominence recently with the PFAI team that went to Norway”.

Mahon added: “we’ve gone to a lot of effort to sign him but I feel he is the kind of player that will definitely enhance our squad, he’s still only 24 but he’s already had 5 or 6 years’ experience in the league and he can play either up front or out wide on the right”.

St Patrick’s Athletic resumed pre-season training last weekend and are due to play their first competitive match away to Cliftonville in the Setanta Cup on 21st February.

'Dyl' joined Waterford United at the end of July 2010 having played the first half of the season with Limerick but only lasted until October when his contract was terminated by the club.

Kavanagh also played in the RSC between 2005 and 2007. He signed for Limerick at the beginning of the 2010 season and scored twice this season for Pat Scully’s side.

Kavanagh starred for Carrick United in which he played in the Munster Senior Cup final, and won an FAI Junior Cup medal in 2008. That was followed by a year with Stephen Henderson’s Cobh Ramblers in, before signing with Limerick at the start of the 2009 season.

Kavanagh's first match for the Saints could be in their first pre-season friendly against former club Waterford United on Tuesday Febraury 15th at Richmond Park.
