Guy calls time on Inchicore career

St. Patrick's Athletic star Ryan Guy has announced that he is to depart Inchicore and return home to the United States. Having signed a one year extension to his contract last year, the popular winger has decided to not seek a further contract, stating personal reasons for his departure.

Speaking to stpatsfc.com Ryan spoke about his time at Richmond Park and his memories of being a Saint.

"Over the last four years I've had the pleasure of seeing St Patricks Athletic play Premiership sides, host European giants, slay Swedish powerhouses, and travel to the far reaches of the continent. I've seen tears of sorrow and joy on the faces of players and fans alike. There have been management changes and more than a few squad changes and I've even seen the odd prank done on members of staff.

"But, as it does for most footballers, the time has come for me to say my goodbyes. In all honesty, this last four years at Richmond Park have been the best of my life. A return to good auld America is on the cards for me now, leaving one family to be closer to another.

"I am going miss Friday nights in Richmond, and the "stars and stripes"'song, and I'm even going to miss the sound of Pete Mahon's voice ringing in my ears. Inchicore will forever be in my blood though, it's where I was given my start and where I learned the difference between a true Irishman and a plastic paddy."

Speaking to stpatsfc.com, Pete Mahon admitted he wanted to keep the midfielder at Pats.

"I have been speaking to Ryan about this since November and while I have tried my best I haven’t been able to change his mind about leaving. While I deeply wanted Ryan to stay he has a family to think about and I understand that. There is no issue whatsover in relation to wages or Ryan being unhappy, he just wanted to be closer to his family and once his mind was made up what could I do?"

"He was very well thoughts of by the fans, his fellow players and all the staff and we wish him all the best in the future."

Guy is originally from San Diego. He signed for St. Pats in 2007, playing over 130 games for the Dublin side. Guy scored the only goal in the European game against JFK Olimps Riga earning Pats their first ever away European win.
