Rovers duo set to play in Cork
Cork City have confirmed that they will face league winners Shamrock Rovers and FAI Cup champions Sligo Rovers in pre-season friendlies at Musgrave Park next month.
Having already confirmed games against Sporting Fingal and Cobh Ramblers at Bishopstown, the league champions will visit Leeside on Friday, February 4th, while Sligo Rovers will provide the opposition for Tommy Dunne’s side on Friday, February 18th. Both games will kick off at 7.45 pm.
Work on the pitch at Turner’s Cross means it is unavailable for the clashes, and while Bishopstown would be able to host the game, the Cork base of Munster rugby would mean a better possibility of City getting a decent crowd to see two of the club sides in Ireland.
“Turner’s Cross is unavailable as there is work being done on the pitch, and it’s great to see Munster making Musgrave Park available to us,” Dunne said. I went along for a look at the pitch last week, and it’s in excellent condition. I am pleased that we will have both the league and cup winners coming to Cork for pre-season; in addition to the games against Cobh Ramblers and Sporting Fingal, it gives us a good series of games for pre-season, and I hope that we will be in a position to announce at least one further friendly game in the near future.”
