Dunleavy set for cross-channel debut
Johnny Dunleavy is in line to make his first appearance in English
League football tomorrow, having secured a short-term loan move to
League Two Barnet from Wolves.
The 19-year old Donegal lad has joined Barnet on a month-long loan deal and could feature in tomorrow’s League Two clash against Shrewsbury at Underhill.
The right-back has captained the Republic of Ireland at underage levels and has also worn the armband of Wolves’ Reserve team.
Highly-rated at Molineux, Dunleavy was given his first professional contract by Wolves in the summer of 2009 and has been with the club since October 2006.
Last season, a broken metatarsal hampered his progress, but now Mick McCarthy has opted to loan out the promising defender in a bid to see him gain valuable first-team experience.
Dunleavy, a son of former Donegal GAA star Brendan, agreed to join Barnet. The Bees are struggling in League Two, sitting in 22nd place, though last week they recorded a fine 3-1 win away to Bradford.
In late December, they sacked manager Mark Stimson following a 2-1 defeat to Aldershot, with Paul Fairclough in temporary charge at Underhill. “We are delighted to have John on board,” Fairclough said.
“He is a player that Wolves rate highly and he will be in the squad for the game on Saturday against Shrewsbury Town."
