Carey returns to Cork City

Alan Carey has returned to former club Cork City after putting pen to paper on a deal which sees him return to his hometown club after spells with Cobh Ramblers and more-recently Waterford United.
The 30-year-old right-back will be an important addition to the squad thanks to his array of experience alone. He had left Turner’s Cross in 2004 when Pat Dolan was manager at City, but after a solid six years with Ramblers and then Stephen Henderson’s Blues, he is now back in Cork and looking forward to the challenge.
“I’m genuinely delighted to be back at the club. I know most of the players at the club, either from playing with them or playing against them, and that will make it easier for me to settle back in straight away. I have heard great things about Tommy Dunne and how good a coach he is, and I was very impressed with what he had to say when I met him,” Carey told corkcityfc.net.
“This is a great challenge for me personally, and I’m really looking forward to it. I want to play a part in getting Cork City back into the Premier Division- promotion has to be our main aim, and I am confident that we have a very good chance of achieving that.”
Earlier today, Dunne had confirmed the departure of club captain Cillian Lordan due to work commitments, but also mentioned he expects several new faces to be signed in the coming days. This marks the first of what is expected to be four or five signings in total.
“He’s a player who has been in the league for a good number of years, and he also has experience of winning promotion from this division. He is a good addition to our squad and I believe he will have an important role to play for us over the course of the season. We are also in negotiations with a number of other players, and I would hope that we will have news on these in the coming days.”
