Liam Kearney pens Australia deal

Australia's Victorian Premier League side Dandenong Thunder have announced the signing of Liam Kearney. Kearney has been signed to fill the void left by Scott Bulloch after he joined cross town rival Bentleigh Greens.

28-year-old Cork native Kearney has represented Ireland on 7 occasions at under 21 level, and joins the club having spent last season with Waterford United. The midfielder also spent time at English club Nottingham Forest as well as Cork City, Derry City and Shelbourne. Kearney made his debut for the club over the weekend in the 2-0 preseason win over fellow Victorian Premier League club Hume City.

Dandenong Thunder coach Stuart Munro was pleased to have Liam join the club, “We did a bit of research on him and found that he's at a good age at 27 and has played at the highest standing in Ireland for a number of years. He looks to be an exciting signing for the club as he is a quick left sided player who can also play as a striker. He has the ability to run at people and get in behind defences with his speed and we think he will be a great asset for us moving forward.”

Speaking to www.dandenongthundersc.com.au.. upon signing at the club, Kearney was delighted to join the Thunder, “I’m loving it, and finding my time here already great and thank the people here who have made settling in a whole lot better by looking after me and making sure I’m getting looked after. Before coming to the club, I spoke to a few people and heard that the fans were passionate to say the least, and there are good people around the club, so I decided to come here and win the league for the fans.”

Kearney describes himself as a “tricky midfielder who is both left and right footed and can play as a winger either side.” In leaving a message for the fans Kearney said, “I hope they can take me on board as I know how passionate they are, I hope to excite them and most importantly win the league for them.”
