Kavanagh agrees new City deal
Cork City have tonight announced that young defender Gavin Kavanagh has signed a new deal at the club.
The 22-year old signed for the club in June and has made 16 league appearances since. The news follows on from captain Cillian Lordan agreeing a new deal with the club on Monday.
Kavanagh told CorkCityFC.net that he has enjoyed his time with the club and has high hopes for next season:
“I’ve really enjoyed my time at the club since I signed, and I am delighted to have signed back with the club. We had a disappointing end to the season, but I believe that if we can keep the bulk of this season’s squad and hopefully add two or three experienced players, that we can be confident of having a good season in 2011.”
City boss Tommy Dunne expressed his happiness at capturing the central defender’s signature for 2011, saying: “Gavin took a couple of weeks to settle in when he arrived first, but I think he got better and better as the season went on, and was one of our best performers over the last third of the campaign. With the training programme he has been given for the close-season and a proper pre-season, I believe he can be even better next season. He is a quick, strong centre half, he is good on the ball, and I believe he has a bright future with the club.”
