St. Patrick’s Athletic -v- Shamrock Rovers

St. Patrick’s Athletic welcome Shamrock Rovers to Richmond Park on Tuesday evening as both go in search of a place in the FAI Cup final. Kick-Off 7.45pm.

After an action packed encounter in Tallaght Stadium on Sunday, a 2-2 draw meant a replay with a last gasp Paddy Kavanagh own goal gifting St. Pat’s an unlikely replay. Chris Turner’s header was cancelled out by Dave McAllister before Gary Twigg gave the Hoops the advantage for the second time in the game. Then from a St. Pat’s corner Paddy Kavanagh planted a powerful header past his keeper Alan Mannus to level the tie in the final minute.

St. Patrick’s Athletic manager Pete Mahon knows his side may be slight favourites with home advantage, he believes they can win. “As the home side there will now be a bit more expectation and pressure on ourselves”, he said. “I thought yesterday [Sunday] we played well especially after the first half hour and if we can play as we did in the second half then we’ve every chance of making it through.”

Pete Mahon has two injury concerns ahead of the game. Dave Mulcahy took a knock to his knee while fellow midfielder David McAllister picked up a thigh injury during the game. The fitness of both players will be assessed before the game. St. Pat’s welcome back Damien Lynch from suspension.

“We’re disappointed that the tie has gone to a replay” Rovers manager Michael O’Neill said after the game, “as we felt we should have won yesterday. But that also gives me great faith in the lads; I know they can get the win on Tuesday night.”

“We also have a good record at Richmond Park; we won the two games we played there this season. It will be a tough game, but we will be going there confident that we can get the win”, he concluded.

O’Neill has a number of injury concerns following the game on Sunday. Stephen Rice (knee), James Chambers (ankle), Tommy Stewart (ankle), Chris Turner (knee) and Pat Flynn (hamstring), who all picked up injuries and are doubtful. Danny Murphy and Craig Sives come back into the squad after serving suspensions. Dan Murray, Sean O’Connor and Pat Sullivan (all knees) remain out.
