Doyle - Hardwork key to Bray's turnaround

Daire Doyle believes hard work has been the key to the remarkable turnaround for Bray Wanderers.

A few short months ago the Seagulls were rooted to the bottom of the Premier Division table and relegation looked almost certain. Cue Pat Devlin taking over the reins and suddenly a change in their fortunes.

With two games left and baring a major disaster they have secured a play-off place. Doyle admitted the players have worked hard and are now reaping the rewards. “It’s down to the hard work from each and every individual in the squad. We have worked very hard this last while and we’ve had our rewards. Thankfully it has pushed us up the table ahead of Drogheda. We are looking forward to a strong finish to the season,” he told Extratime.

On Sunday last, Bray Wanderers had a chance to condemn bottom side Drogheda United to the First Division but they were held to a 1-1 draw. Although disappointed not to get the win the aim for Bray was not to lose game.

Doyle said, “We knew before that game that if we won the game that would be us guaranteed that 9th position so obviously we are slightly disappointed that we didn’t get the three points. Our objective was not to lose the game and give Drogheda a chance with two games to go.”

It has been an amazing couple of weeks for Bray Wanderers. The midfielder still can’t believe how things have changed in the last few weeks for the club. “We were eight points behind Drogheda at one stage. Actually then we couldn’t see where a win was coming from. The last few weeks have just been fantastic. We have two games left and we will be looking to pick up points in those games,” said Doyle.

There is an air of confidence at the Carlisle Grounds at the moment. Doyle knows winning breed’s confidence and it’s making the football more enjoyable now for the players. “We are enjoying it more now that we are winning games and picking up points. The atmosphere has improved a lot because of the results we have been getting in the last couple of weeks. You can see it in the dressing room and on the pitch. It shows the confidence that has come on because of those results,” the ex Longford Town player said.

A play-off away to Galway United awaits Bray Wanderers on Nov 2nd. Doyle is aware that anything can happen on the day but is confident that Bray can claim the win that retains their Premier Division status for next season. “It is a one off game and anything can happen. If we get to the play-offs, after what happened to us this season, we will be right up for it. If we are playing Galway in the play-offs you can be sure that Bray Wanderers will be well up for,” said the affable Dub.
