Faz philosophical in defeat

In the aftermath of Dundalk’s 4-2 home defeat by Sligo Rovers the Lilywhites leading scorer spoke exclusively to Extratime. In pragmatic mood he touched on the controversial nature of both Wayne Hatswell’s red card and a crucial penalty awarded against Garry Breen.

“I suppose it was fair in a way, Wayne Hatswell committed a couple of fouls, I thought the last one that he got sent off for was quite soft, I don’t think he touched the lad. But that’s football that’s what you’ve got to do to get one over your opponent. It’s bad for us but the lad (Gary McCabe) done well that’s his job I suppose. It was a massive turning point it gave them a lift in the first half with the wind as well and when they got the second goal it was going to be tough. I thought we still played quite well with the 10 men, I thought we did very well to get back in the game. In the second half they kept the ball very well, they’re a very good side, they’ve got great players, it was always going to be hard.”

The Bosnian native referred to the decisive spot kick which gave the Bit O’Red their third goal and effectively finished the game “The penalty? Well I’m looking forward to seeing it on MNS anyway and I hope the refs are, but what can you do? Garry Breen won the ball and it went off McCabe it was a clear good tackle, the linesman is 15 yards away, the ref can see it, everyone else can see it but you know you have to play on.”

Faz is enjoying his best ever goal return this season but sees the goals as the icing on his cake “I think I’ve got 14 goals, I think I got the same one season at Sligo, I’m just enjoying playing football and working hard and I always say when I’m performing the goals come. I’m enjoying it at the club and the manager is letting me play in my position and letting me enjoy it and I’m happy that I can give the team what we need and with the goals also coming its good.”

The striker has publicly stated that he would like to be part of Ian Fosters squad for next season, we asked where the negotiations had got to “I’ve definitely said that I’d like to stay, I’m in talks with the manager, nothing has progressed, we’ve not discussed financial terms yet we’re just having a chat. I’ve expressed to the manager that I’m ready to commit to the club so that’s good enough for me.”

I’m sure all Lilywhite fans will hope that Faz can agree terms and continue to display his hard graft and sublime touch next season.
