Drogheda United host St. Patrick's Athletic on Tuesday night at Hunky
Dory Park, with kick off coming at the usual time of 7:45pm. The
change in the fixture is due to the visitors involvement in the FAI Cup Semi Final with Shamrock Rovers.
Saturday saw the Saints draw with Sporting Fingal at Morton Stadium. United were also on their travels as they went to the Showground and faced off against Sligo Rovers. Speaking about the tie manager Bobby Browne stated that "we put in a good performance against Sligo and were a bit unfortunate but it was a wonder goal that won it." The final score saw Sligo win out 2-1 victors, not the ideal start for new Drogs boss.
Drogheda United have had a very poor run of form, claiming only one point from their last eleven fixtures. However it is worth noting that the Louth team have beaten the men from Inchicore twice this season. Although in the last meeting of these sides goals from McAllister and Doyle earned St. Pats the win.
The Dublin side come into the game with both Derek Pender and Ian Bermingham available. However they have some injury worries; Damian Lynch and Stuart Byrne are doubtful ahead of the tie, but good news comes as long term absentee Paul Byrne is back in training following his ankle injury.
Shane Guthrie who is suffering a dead leg is out for the visit to Drogheda meanwhile Gareth Coughlan remains out with a broken leg. Striker Fitzpatrick returns from suspension for Drogheda, with Eric McGill the only doubt. McGills' namesake Brendan is still on the sidelines.
As the season draws to a close, all is yet to play for and both of these teams are eager to gain the three points on offer. St. Patrick’s Athletic are looking to claim a European spot, regardless of their run in this year FAI cup. The homeside however are hoping to gain something from the game, as they scrap at the bottom of the table.
"Hopefully we can take the positives into tomorrow night. It is a massive clash and we need to take something from it," commented the new boss at Hunky Dory Park, Bobby Browne.
