Eighteen year old Mick Clarke, who was very impressive against Shelbourne in the league cup two weeks ago, has signed his first professional contract with the club. Clarke, a full back, is a product of the club's impressive new youth development system, which has also provided the first team with the likes of Cian Byrne, Gareth Whelan and David McAllister in the past year. He has represented the club at Under 17, Under 18, Under 21, A-Team and first team level already.

His 1st team debut came in the cup last year, when he played in United's second round 3-0 defeat to Shamrock Rovers. He also featured in the club's pre-season friendly against Stockport, receiving rave reviews for his performance at right-back.

Boss Paul Doolin is delighted with the signing, saying "It's great for young Mick. He seems a very decent player, and I thought he did brilliantly well against Shelbourne. He's one for the future, definitely."
