“Six points is something we can achieve and we're capable of getting it. It’s something you have to aim for definitely. I think the key to this game is going in to it with the right mindset and being prepared for what is ahead of us.”

Kilbane expects a hostile welcoming for The Boys in Green and insists the players will have to have full concentration for 90 minutes if they are to pull off the win the 33-year-old believes they are capable of.

“I think we can go and get three points on Wednesday. We're going in to try and win and I think that will be in everyone's mind come Friday. It's a tough start for us but we're capable and we're confident we can go and win the game,” he insisted.

The Hull City player also spoke of the ongoing transfer rumours surrounding international team-mates Robbie Keane and Shay Given. Kilbane conceded it was not ideal for the players involved but he was adamant it was not something that would affect their performances.

“Something could happen and is likely to at least one of the players. If options d come up for any player and they can get first-team football then I'm sure they'll take it.”
