Finn Harps Chairman Steps Down
Finn Harps Football Club wish to confirm that Chairman, John Campbell, has stepped down from the position with immediate effect. Mr. Campbell's last function as Chairman was his address to the gathering at Monday's sod turning cermony on the site of the new Finn Harps stadium at Stranorlar.
Mr. Campbell was first elected to the Harps board of Directors during the 2006 season. After the 2007 AGM, Mr. Cambpell was elected Chairman of the club and was re-elected to the position again in 2008. At the start of the 2008 season, Mr. Campbell became the club's first ever Club Promotions Officer - a position that is part-funded by the Football Association of Ireland. At that time, Mr. Campbell stated that he would probably step down for the position of Chairman at some point during the 2008 season.
"I would like to thank everyone connected with the club for their help, guidance and advice during my time as Chairman", said Mr. Campbell. "I would especially like to thanks the club's fans for their support - it was so very much appreciated. It was a great honour to represent this club as Chairman - a position that very few people have held in the history of the club. However, the job of CPO has meant that it has been virtually impossible to give as much time to the role of Chairman and I felt now was the time to step down. I had already informed the board when re-elected to the Chair at the start of this season that it would only be for a few months as I could foresee how difficult with would be to combine the roles of Chairman and CPO. I look forward to working with the fans, schools and Community Groups in my job as CPO. I have always believed that the club belongs to the fans and no one can ever forget that fans must take ownership of the club and now is the time when the need to get behind the team."
The Board of Directors will fill the position of Chairman in the coming weeks.
