Stat Attack
With 110 league games now having been completed in both divisions, extratime.ie undertook some analytical research of the results so far to try and unearth some nuggets of information to both entertain those for whom stats are a precious commodity, and aid those who like to have a flutter on the weekend's action.
In the Premier Division, there has been a pretty even spread of results. 24 home wins, 17 draws and 19 away wins. On scoring aggregate, the home sides are 62-53 ahead, while the average goals per game ratio is down slightly on previous years to 1.92. This is mainly down to the fact that a lot of the games have been very tightly contested.
Almost half of the games in the Premier Division have only produced a goal or less, with a 1-0 scoreline being the most likely so far, occurring on 19 occasions. Nearly 70% of the games have produced Under 2.5 goals per game, as amazingly 75% of the teams in the division have still only conceded a goal a game or less.
On only one occasion so far this season has a Premier team come from behind at half time to win a game. Predictably, it was league leaders St Pat's, who battled back to beat Sligo Rovers 3-1 in Inchicore. For those who prefer a half-time/full-time bet, 75% of the games so far have gone HOME/HOME, DRAW/DRAW, or AWAY/AWAY.
The First Division has been a higher scoring affair so far, with 126 goals banged in during 50 games, at an average of 2.52. The percentage of home wins is markedly higher though, standing at 50%. As it stands there have been 25 home wins, 14 draws, and 11 away wins. On aggregate, the home team has a large 81-45 advantage. A 2-0 scoreline has occurred 10 times, while there have been 11 games that have produced four or more goals.
Kildare have been involved in the two games where the result reversed following the half-time interval. Considering they are only one off the bottom, it is no surprise that they lost both games, away to Waterford, and at home to league leaders Shelbourne.
