Drogheda United -v- Shamrock Rovers
Coming into this fixture Drogheda United are currently in ninth place
in the Airtricity League, with only one win in their last five ties.
Shamrock Rovers have emerged from a good European run and a huge
3-0 victory over Bohemians last week. It goes without saying that the
Hoops are the on form side and are obvious favourites to pick up the
points in the Friday night clash.
Rovers recent cluttered schedule leaves Craig Sives a doubt due to a groin strain. Meanwhile, Pat Flynn is suspended due to his red card in Sunday’s big game. Chris Turner is also suspended for the fixture; with long-term absentee's Dessie Baker and Pat Sullivan unavailable to face the Drogs. Over in the home camp the news is happier as Brendan McGill is the only name on the injury list this week.
Commenting before the weekends action, Director of Football Darius Kierans seems confident. “We have a lot of bodies back and probably our best performance of the season was in Tallaght when we were unlucky to win. So we aren’t afraid of them by any stretch of the imagination.” Although, Kierans was quick to add, “I was impressed with their two legs against Juventus and then they had a great win over Bohs at the weekend.”
So while the points the difference is 27, it certainly will be a good match between the sides as the Hoops who travel to Hunky Dory Park to face a young, determined Drogheda.
