Fenlon not expecting any trouble

Ireland's Under-23 side take on their Northern Irish counterparts on Tuesday night at Glenavon's Mourneview Park in Lurgan. This will be Ireland's second outing at this level.

Ireland are in the same group as Belgium, Slovakia and Northern Ireland. They opened their campaign with a 2-0 win over Slovakia at Dalymount last November.

Manager Pat Fenlon was quick to dismiss the suggestions that appeared in some weekend newspapers that Tuesday's game in Lurgan could become a flashpoint.

Speaking to extratime.ie he referred to a recent Setanta Cup game - "I was at the Pat's-Linfield game, and the Evening Herald blew the whole thing out of proportion. There wasn't any trouble at the game. There was one Linfield fan and I think he was pictured in about six or seven different poses. Some elements of the press just want to write things and that's poor."

He continued -"I can't see there being any problems, those days are hopefully over."

Tickets for the game have been available since last week from a number of eircom league clubs and Fenlon is hoping to have some fans there to cheer on his side - "I don't know how many fans will travel to the North from the South, but hopefully we will get a bit of support with us."

Kick off at Mourneview Park, Lurgan is 7.45pm and extratime.ie will be there to report back on how the stars of our league get on.
