Drogheda United has parted company with Joe Kendrick after the left back requested to have his contract cancelled this week.

Kendrick was seen arguing with Drogheda assistant manager Darius Kierans after being subbed in Drogheda’s 2-0 defeat at the hands of Bray Wanderers on Friday night. He was replaced on 78 minutes by Eoghan Osborne after a lacklustre performance.

Speaking to Extratime on Kendrick’s departure Drogheda director of Football Darius Kierans said that Kendrick will be a big loss to the squad.

“He has a young family and he came to me and just said that his head wasn’t in it anymore and I’ve a lot of respect for him, it will be a big loss for us but he felt it wasn’t fair on me or the team to continue.”

The left back has been an integral figure in the Boynesiders squad since joining in 2008 and has been one of the top scorers for the club this season having taken over set piece duties from the departed James Chambers. The Dubliner has three strikes to his name in 18 appearances for Brian Donnelly’s side this season.

However the Boynesiders have added former St Patricks Athletic player Connor Sinnott to their squad and the Wexford native will be making his debut against his former side.

Sinnott who signed for Pats earlier in the year failed to make the breakthrough to Pete Mahons starting squad and subsequently had his contract terminated by mutual consent.

The midfielder who plied his trade at Wexford and Limerick before moving to Richmond Park is expected to start on the left wing due to the injury crisis at Drogheda.
