Shamrock Rovers sign Neale Fenn

In a move that will surprise most league fans, six days after announcing he was quitting Dundalk and retiring from the game due to personal reasons, Neale Fenn has signed for Shamrock Rovers.

Fenn today put pen to paper on a deal that will see him join the Hoops for the rest of the season.

O’Neill said he is delighted to have a player of Fenn’s experience and ability available to him for the rest of the season. “I am delighted to have Neale on board. He is a very good player who has proven himself in this league, and won titles.”

Fenn, who was raised in London, began his career with Tottenham Hotspur and has since played for a host of clubs including Leyton Orient, Norwich City, Swindon Town, Lincoln City, Peterborough United, Waterford United, Cork City and Bohemians, where he won the League and Cup double in 2008 under Pat Fenlon.

Speaking to dundalkfc.com last week Fenn had said he couldn't see himself coming out of retirement and making a U-turn.

“I think once you finish you might as well finish rather than making all sorts of comebacks. At the moment, I can’t see myself coming back at all,” he insisted.
